Transponder Keys in Ventura County: Cut & Programmed at Your Car

Most keys made since the late 1990s carry a chip that must be programmed to your car's immobilizer. A bare metal copy will turn the lock but never start the engine. We cut the key and program the chip in one visit, anywhere in our Ventura County coverage area.

What the Transponder Visit Covers

A transponder key has to answer your car's immobilizer before the engine will run. That is why a kiosk copy that was never programmed will open the door and then do absolutely nothing.

The visit covers both halves of the job: the blade is cut to your vehicle's code, then the chip is programmed to the immobilizer with proper diagnostic equipment plugged into the car, all at your location. All-keys-lost is routine and stays inside the published $120–$260 range: bring ID and proof of ownership, and the technician programs the new key from scratch.

Not sure whether your car uses a plain transponder or a full smart-key system? Our transponder vs smart key guide sorts it out in two minutes. Or just call with your year, make, and model and the dispatcher tells you which published range applies before anything is booked.

  • Key cut + chip programmed: both halves of the job, done at the vehicle.
  • All-keys-lost handled: no working key required; we program from scratch.
  • Spare-key programming: a programmed spare today is the cheap insurance against a lockout later.
  • Immobilizer diagnostics: when a "new key from the hardware store" mysteriously won't start the car, this is usually why.
  • Ownership verified: ID and proof of ownership checked before any key is programmed.

Ventura County chip-key calls are handled entirely at your location. The diagnostic gear travels, so a Camarillo driveway or an Oxnard parking garage works as well as any shop counter.

Transponder Keys FAQs: Ventura County

Why won't the copy I got at the hardware store start my car?
It was cut correctly but never programmed, or has no chip at all. The engine immobilizer only accepts keys programmed to it. We cut and program in the same visit, so the key actually starts the car.
I lost every key to my car. Is that a bigger job?
It is routine for us and stays inside the published $120–$260 range. One quiet benefit: on most vehicles, programming from scratch clears the immobilizer's memory of the old keys, so if the lost ones ever turn up in the wrong hands they no longer start the car. Bring ID and proof of ownership.
Should I get a spare programmed while you're here?
Almost always yes. A second programmed key in a drawer turns a future all-keys-lost emergency into a non-event. Ask the technician for the spare price for your specific model before the visit ends.
Do you cover my car model in Ventura County?
We program transponders for most makes on the road. Honda, Toyota, and Nissan are our most common. Call (805) 273-8262 with your year, make, and model and the dispatcher confirms on the spot.
How long does cutting and programming take?
Most single-key jobs finish well within an hour at the vehicle. Cutting takes minutes, and programming time varies by make. All-keys-lost runs longer on some models; the dispatcher sets honest expectations when you book.
My spare starts the car but the remote buttons do nothing. Same service?
Close. The transponder chip and the remote are separate systems living in the same shell. Remote functions can often be programmed in the same visit; tell the dispatcher the exact symptoms and the technician arrives prepared for both.
